Rome ~ Part Three

Written by Si

Welcome back to Rome! As previously mentioned – we loved Rome so much that we returned 4 weeks later!! Having done all the tourist bits the last time around, we took advantage of really getting into the middle or Rome and what it had to offer.

Day 1

This time we decided to get a serviced apartment, literally 4 minutes walk to the Colosseum. It had a musky smell to it and an underground bedroom, at first we though this was funky, but with hardly any air we opted for the bed that was upstairs! The air con was a life saver as temperatures were in excess of 40 degrees Celsius all week!

Oddly enough it felt like we knew the place inside out. Driving around was much easier and we knew where everything was.

After freshening up, we ventured out to discover Rome at night and make our way across the city to a restaurant we had been to the last time around by the river. It was a fantastic walk….

On our travels, we stopped by the Colosseum (how could we not!) as last time I forgot my pro camera and wanted to get some high quality snaps.

After that we went on a trek visiting the Altare Della Patria and the Piazza Venezia. All of which we went to see in daylight and night time, beautiful in both sets of light!

After being told off for taking so long walking about and taking snaps, we ventured through the streets to continue our journey to the restaurant.

Surprisingly out of nowhere hundreds of people were gathered, we had managed to stumble across a carnival type of event that seemed to celebrate all the priests etc of Rome as they passed through the crowds. It was quite a fun and unique experience, despite me wanting to follow them – soph did not allow this as she was hungry – so we proceeded!

Once by the river (where we went last time we visited Rome) we had reached the restaurant before returning back through the bustling streets and city.

Day 2

Our day could not have started better! We located a fantastic patisserie (whom also do food throughout the whole day). Here we had a traditional English breakfast, very reasonably priced, as well as a few naughty pastries!! This put us in good stead for our journey to Fregene beach where we had gone before.

Driving in and out of Rome is such an excellent experience with so much to see!

Upon our return that evening we ventured out in the city again as I wanted to see the Trevi Fountain again but in the dark. It was beautiful! We also went past the Pantheon and other areas before stopping off at an unreal ice cream/chocolate parlour

After all this walking we were very hungry and ventured back towards our apartment. At the bottom of our long street road was a restaurant we had longed to go to in both trips to Rome, finally we had the chance and we were not disappointed. Please do read the post on this one! Angeline Si Fori dal 1947. It capped of another amazing day in Rome!

To be continued…
